Being part of the global Werfen family, you have access to all the benefits you need to stay physically and financially healthy.

Who Is Eligible?
  • All full-time and part-time employees who are residents of Canada and work a minimum of 20 hours per week are eligible for benefits.
  • In addition to enrolling yourself, you may also enrol your eligible dependent(s) in medical, vision, dental, and/or voluntary insurance benefits.
    • He/she must be your spouse or your child and a resident of Canada.
    • Your child and/or your spouse’s child (excluding foster children) must be under age 21.
    • Note, a child who is a full-time student attending an educational institution recognized under the Income Tax Act (Canada) is also considered an eligible dependent until the age of 25 if the child is entirely dependent on you for financial support.

Key Plan Year Dates
  • For new hires, most benefits will become effective on your date of hire.
  • Benefit elections cannot be changed unless a mid-year qualifying life event impacts your eligibility. Supporting documentation required.

  • Canada employees are automatically enrolled in these 100% Company-paid benefits.
  • It’s never too late to save for retirement!
    • Eligible Canada employees can enrol at any time in the Werfen RSPP Plan.
    • Set your payroll-deducted basic contribution amount (up to 6% of your earnings).
    • Werfen will make a dollar-for-dollar match (up to 6% of your earnings) to your RSPP.
    • To maximize your savings, consider contributing more than the basic required amount.
      • Your 2026 RRSP contribution limit will be equal to the lesser of 18% of prior year earnings or the current tax year's maximum RRSP limit ($33,810).
    • To split retirement income, consider contributing to your spouse's RRSP (this amount counts towards your personal limit).
  • Review your beneficiary designations.
    • Ensure the right people inherit your financial assets (life insurance and RSPP savings).

What is a Qualifying Change-In-Status Event?
If your personal situation changes during the plan year, you have an opportunity to reconsider your benefit selections, change your dependents, and/or update your beneficiaries under the plan terms. Supporting documentation may be required.

Eligible qualifying life events include:
  • Marriage
  • Common-law relationship
  • Divorce or legal separation
  • Birth/adoption of a child
  • Death of a dependent (spouse or child)
  • Gain or loss of spouse’s coverage
Life events must be reported to the Werfen Benefits Team within 31 days of the event with supporting documentation. Werfen will work directly with Sun Life and/or CHUBB to process approved benefit change requests on your behalf.
